Should I get an expensive desktop + Apple iPad or just an expensive Laptop?

I will use it for heavy gaming, digital content creation like maya, photoshop etc plus regular stuff like browsing, 1080p movies etc. I wonder if getting expensive laptops are worth it or if it is better to get an expensive desktop along with a tablet like iPad for portability. Which is better for me?

Later on when I try to go to a website, (on the iPad) there were all these Amazon websites.all the different country logos.all amazon.

I don't see enough info on that in the online manual either. I have one of the newer ones with Retina display. I love it but it kind of bugs me that a lot of features can't be accessed without being online. I'd like to download my music and listen to it anywhere without having to connect to iTunes or ICloud. Can this be done?

I wish Apple would stop complicating stuff sometimes. I'm so use to how easy and convenient PC's are.No headaches other than security stuff.

How to use the internet in the UK?

I am going to England and Scotland for two weeks in arch and I a curious about the best way to have internet access. I am going to buy an Ipad but I'm not sure which one to get.Do I really need a cellular plan or will the wi-fi be fine.i just want to be able to skype or use facetime to talk to my family and use facebook.
Added (1). I am going with a study abroad group, but we not going to be on a school campus at all. If I get cellular plan it there an international option that's temporary?
