After last nights event, which I thought was awful, I was reminded again. Apple has no competition. None. Zero. There is no other company that plays the same game as Apple.
Apple creates computers, phones, tablets, music players, operating systems and productivity software. They also sell movies and music and they have an app store that so far hasn't been challenged.
Name all the other companies that do all of that or link a multitude of products together in a manner that is powerful and user-friendly, and you have the list of Apple's competitors.
And on top of that they do al of this with a sense of design. Almost every Apple product has a great design. Even the most innovative smartphone on the market, the Galaxy SIII doesn't have a great design! (it feels plastic-like and cheap imho) Small example but even my Apple wireless keyboard & trackpad looks better and feels sturdier than every other similar product on the market.
Last night after unveiling the iPad Mini (which looks odd with that frame) all what everybody could say was "The build quality is great… as you would except from Apple but compared to other 7" tablets the difference is NIGHT AND DAY!"
I don't understand why no other company pays attention to detail, quality and design. I can't be that Apple has all the good designers in silicon valley. Why does no other company try to play the game like Apple? Focus on the user experience and everything…
I also don't understand why Apple is suing everybody that tries to mimic their products even though they shamelessly rip off other companies and it's ok. But Apple suing everybody can't be the sole reason why other companies can't innovate… Apple wasn't suing this much a couple of years back yet the iPhone came from Apple but not from Microsoft or Sony or HP.
Added (1). I would love to switch to an Android phone, none with a good design and updating to the latest operating system can be a problem.
I would love to buy a Windows PC that doesn't uses plastic, is thin, has somewhat of a retina display, offers a great user experience with has a good design. None.
Thank God Microsoft has released their own tablet so the iPad has some real competition but ONLY Microsoft has a real contender.
