Is there a way to legally acquire Microsoft Excel/Word for iPad Pro without the subscription?

I've used PC's for 23 years and just bought my first MAC a few days ago. I want to use Excel and Word, but the option is to pay around six dollars a month.

I want to own a copy for the iPad.
