Now the reason I ask this and I will get replies about titheing but the funny part is that Titheing was never meant to be money it was meant to be what you earned and you gave to the members of the church. I.e. Chicken farmers gave back 10% of their eggs to famlies within in the church. The practice of offereing and placing money into a plate was not actually practiced till after the breaking of the church in the 1500s. Before then you worked for the Catholic church or gave 10% of your crops.
Yes a few churches take donations of clothes and other items but they still will make sure tithing envelopes are stocked in the chair in front of you and that offering plate has never not gone around.
This bothers me because I have seen more and more high tech churches meaning, touch screens to check kids in for sunday school. Several plasma TV's to display worship music. Pastor using IPADS to preach his sermon.
My cousin and her husband are in the process of getting their own church since he just graduated from the semniary and they have their apartment paid for by the church and their smart phones paid for.
So with knowing that the churches are corrupt why do people still tithe?
I give back to the community in my own way. My old church sends me titheing envelopes in the mail and emails about tithing
And please dont say well I don't know a church who does that I hate when people say that, just because you don't see it doesn't mean its not there
Added (1). @hope is certanity I want you to say that to a homeless person or a widow or a foster parent or a military family who can't afford their bills. I really would like you to look one of those people in the eye and repeat those words
Added (2). @oli you do realize that most church bulidings are tax ride offs and the pastor doesn't pay a dime right? Your also are saying that someone who works 1 or 2 days a week should have there bills paid for just because they talk to God? You do know that Churches are considered non profit and when on a electricity grid they are given a discount or services are free? So it is more important to get money from single parent homes and the unemployed who cannot pay their bills who pay full price to pay for a builindg that is occupied one day a week? And for employees why employees? That was what tithing was supposed to be working for the church for free.
Added (3). @wayfarouthtere what i am trying to say is no he doesn't need to put it a hole in the ground but give it back to the congergation. If I am worshiping I don't care about sound quality if i can hear it your good. What I am saying is why do you think it is ok to look at people who can't afford their bills who are struggling everyday take money from them for great sound and new pickup truck? And when they don't give send enevlopes to their house or place of business, do offerning no matter what?
Added (4). @rockin robin guess you didn't read the part where I have family memebers who are pastoring a church, and guess what their large building was donated by the city, they have discounted electricity. Ok go to your states laws section about nonprofits and read that legally they cannot charge them full price for utilities. And ok I go to church one day a week so does my child. Ok other the printing the bullentions and choir practice, maybe wends worship. Why do they need to be there? I know folks with PhDs who cant get jobs but sexy tina loves children so she gets a full time job? Did you even think that crap through to not see how corrupt a church is? Um lets see their are lots of charities who don't send tithing envelopes home talk about hell if you don't give and last time you went into a boysandgirls club or animal shelter did someone hold a plate for donations by the door and follow you around with it? Added (5). in short would you pay for internet or cable that you use can only 1 or 2 days a week? Would you be ok if the service still urged you to pay more? Would you be ok that the employees are there but you still have no internet m-f. Would you be even more upset if you asked for more internet because you are in school and need it and you were denied because the pastor needs a new van? Or asked to donate to the unemployed person your unused internet days? But once again the internet provider it has bills to run your internet that is only functional on Sundays. The CEO of this internet companies has his bills paid for has a nice car, nice clothes, so do his kids, yet his customers are still only getting one days worth of internet
