Facebook message seen or ignored?

so i sent this guy a few messages via Facebook. He lost his phone in a different state a week ago [no, its not an excuse. I talked 2 his band members 2 confirm) and he has an old iPad, first generation that can t even keep apps open so he hasn t been using it that much before he gets a new phone… at times my new messages will change from sent to delivered, but shows that he hasn t seen any of them at all. He did mention something about having bad internet connection that goes in and out though. If his iPad was never turned off yet, could this be a reason why it now says delivered?
Added (1). update: i forgot… he did mention that when i sent him 4 messages in one day only 2 of those messages loaded that he could see…
