Are the members of my school faculty being unjust?

Even though I never say the Pledge of Allegiance during the morning announcements, I recently got in enormous trouble after goofing off on my iPad--not necessarily because I had earbuds in at the time, but because I hadn't noticed that everyone was standing up. I was later informed that it's a school rule that all students must stand for the Pledge, regardless of whether or not they recite it or put their hand on their heart. Is this too much to enforce?
