Horse photography help?!

Okay so I have a canon ixus 220hs camera I really want to be able to take amazing beautiful photos. I just seem when ever I take an awesome pic there is some thing not right about it. I just need some help. I am only able to see My beautiful horse in the arvo (3:40 -6:00) and it's usually getting dark by then. He is really fuzzy cause it's winter so is there any ideas for winter pony pic ideas. Also please look at the first pic and give me pointers on editing apps for iPad and how to edit them amazingly. So I want to take pics like this. But these are my pics.
