Can't get email on iPad. Why?

I have an iPhone and an iPad and have always had the same email account on both. All of a sudden my devices won't receive email saying your account is open on another device? I have tried turning off email on my iPhone and then restarting both devices. Nothing has changed. I have deleted the email on my iPhone and again restarted both devices… Still I get the same error message… I really need to resolve this and have run out of ideas… If I deleted the email account on my iPad. Would I lose all of the emails currently in my inbox? Please help… I need to see my emails.
