Which is better for college textbooks? IPads or androids?

I have a Samsung galaxy note 8.0 tablet (the older model). The tablet battery drains way too fast. You could charge it till it hits 100 percent, take it off the charger, use it for 10 minutes, and it will be on 85 percent. Which is cheaper buying a new tablet or bring it to a repair shop and get the battery replaced? I only use it for ebooks for school(I do have a laptop), occasional game play and internet browsing, And the IR blaster to use it as a remote to the tv. If repairing my tablet would be too much, what would be a good replacement tablet? Or should I just get an iPad? Any tips or ideas are welcomed thanks.
